The Value of Fellowship
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
The Value or importance of Christian fellowship cannot be underrated! It is wisdom to place value on it. And it is foolishness to despise or denigrate it.
Fellowship is a spiritual fire place, the farther you are from it, the colder you get spiritually! Fellowship is valuable because it is God’s will or desire that we always meet or assemble together with a view to encouraging and supporting one another. Fellowship is valuable because it is God’s avenue or method to release the spirit of understanding. There was a time that David was envious of the prosperity of the wicked. But he gained understanding when he went to the house of Lord. David said, “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.”
There are somethings you will never understand until you fellowship with the brethren in love and unity. Like the early church, we are enjoined to continue steadfastly in fellowship. “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
The early church was so addicted to fellowship, that they were meeting daily and from house to house. As they met, their spiritual fire kept burning brighter and brighter; their flames of brotherhood kept going higher and higher. Many people give flimsy reasons why they are not into fellowship. Some say a brother or sister has offended them. But these people will never cease from going to their offices because a boss or a colleague of theirs offended them. My beloved, excusing yourself from fellowship is risky and dangerous to your spiritual health and development. Even if you travel out of your current location, you can still find another body of believers to fellowship with. The easiest way to backslide is to cease from attending church fellowship.
3 benefits of fellowship:
1. Fellowship with the Spirit of Jesus!
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
The easiest way to meet with the Spirit of Jesus is to fellowship with one another in the name of Jesus Christ! You need a regular encounter with His Spirit!
2. Fellowship with innumerable angels!
“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,”
Mount Sion in this passage is the church of God. In fellowship, we are not just meeting with fellow humans but we are meeting with innumerable angels! May God cause you to encounter angels!
3. Fellowship with the brethren!
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us…”
1 John 1:3
There is nothing as sweet and enthralling as having fellowship with
faithful brethren in Christ. The joy of it knows no bounds!
I decree and declare that you will place high premium on fellowship always. I pray that the benefits of fellowship will not elude you in Jesus mighty name!
