Serving God Acceptably
“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
There are services and there are services! Not all services are accepted by God. It’s our singular responsibility to find out the kind of service that is accepted by God.
In order to serve God acceptably, we must be empowered by His grace, as we cannot serve Him by our strength or power but by His Spirit. The Bible says, “… Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Any service rendered with the arms of flesh is not acceptable to God. Acceptable service is God inspired and God empowered! We must depend on His grace and ability to serve God acceptably. But what does it take to serve acceptably?
1. It takes quality service!
Our God is not anyhow God, as such He does not require anyhow service. Serving God acceptably will require quality service. We must give Him the best or excellent service that befits His Almighty status. Quality training engenders quality service delivery! In Daniel 1:3-5, the Bible tells us how Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon needed wise men to serve in his palace. But on the condition that they would be trained for three years before they are qualified to serve in the palace. Now, if an earthly King wanted quality service and wanted them to be trained, what do you think God will require of us. He would want us to undergo proper tutelage in order to offer proper service. After Jesus selected 12 apostles, He rigorously groomed and equipped them for service. Training is key to acceptable service. It is only in Christian service that we see all manner of untrained stewards serving without decorum and excellence. What a shame!
2. It takes honourable service!
Acceptable service must be on the platform of Honour. God expects us to show due honour or respect to Him when we come to serve or worship Him. For instance, you dishonour God by coming late to church! Would you go late for job or visa interviews? No! If you were to catch a flight, would you go late? I don’t think so. Some brethren have even developed this disrespectful habit of making calls or receiving calls while in church service. Some even play games on their mobile phones or chat with friends while in church. Please stop it if you are a culprit, God is not your mate!
3. It takes faithful service!
For your service to be acceptable, you must be faithful. The Bible says, “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2
What does it mean to be faithful?
It means to be loyal, to be reliable, trustworthy and dependable. Are you trustworthy in the way you are serving God? Would God and man be proud to say that you are a loyal and dependable servant? A faithful servant would serve God with sincerity and truth. He or she would serve God with great zeal and enthusiasm. Your faithfulness is also seen in your resolve to please God via holiness and purity. Can people testify of your unblameable lifestyle or behaviour? Apostle Paul said, “Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:”
1 Thessalonians 2:10
I decree and declare that you will be empowered to serve God acceptably, and that you will resolve to turn away from all sinful habits that hinder acceptable service in Jesus mighty name!
