Knowing the Ways of God
“He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.”
Psalms 103:7
Knowing the ways of God is about knowing who God is! It’s about knowing His character and nature. While knowing His acts is about knowing His awesome works, about what He has done, about what He is doing and what He will yet do. Many of us only know God’s acts. The children of Israel witnessed His acts in Egypt and wilderness. They were only thrilled by His acts, signs and wonders. How many of us really want to know God personally and intimately with a view to walking in His ways? Many of us are craving for His acts to the detriment of His ways. We must not restrict our knowledge of God to His acts alone. God is more than His acts, signs and wonders! The Bible says, “But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”
Jeremiah 9:24
God’s ways are ways of justice, love, kindness, and righteousness. David said, “The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”
Psalms 145:17
God makes it clear that His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. The Bible says,
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:9
Ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD. And when a man’s ways please the LORD, God makes even the man’s enemies to be at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7)
We are enjoined to walk in all the ways of God, and doing that which is right in the eyes of the LORD always. If we walk in the ways of God, we will definitely turn from our wicked ways.
It’s not possible to walk in the ways of God and walk in our sinful ways at the same time! Authentic repentance is key to walking in the ways of God. It is required of us to fear the Lord and walk in His ways. The Bible says,
“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,”
Deuteronomy 10:12
How do we know the ways of God?
We know His ways via teaching. As we assemble in church, God inspires His servants to teach us to know and walk in His ways. The Bible says, “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 2:3
Let’s consider 3 Benefits of knowing and walking in God’s ways:
1. Longevity
“And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.”
1 Kings 3:14
2. Enemies subdued
“Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.”
Psalms 81:13-14
3. Divine Blessing
“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.”
Psalms 128:1-2
I decree and declare that you will be empowered by God to know and walk in His ways in Jesus mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
