How to overcome Disappointment
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
Psalm 34:18-19
Disappointment is one of the satanic afflictions plaguing many people today! One of satan’s destructive weapons is depression which is induced by disappointment! If only satan or his agent can get you disappointed or get you to despair over your life issues or efforts, then his battle is already won. But I decree victory for you!
Are you struggling grievously with discouragement or disappointment? Have you been disappointed by someone who promised to love or marry you? I have once ministered to a lovely daughter of God who could not fathom why a Christian brother would disappoint her, after they had promised each other heaven on earth. Beloved, I can still feel her pains! As terrible as disappointment might be, it is not meant to define or kill you! It is not meant to hold you hostage or weigh you down into the pits of depression. You can shatter and scatter disappointment if you dare embrace the Word of God. Let’s consider 3 important Word – induced strategies:
1. Leave the past
“Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.”
Isaiah 54:4
To overcome disappointments, you must learn to leave the past. You must learn to let go of the past. You will never make any progress if you keep romanticizing your painful memories. True forgiveness is a sure bet, if you desire to let go of the past. Anything that holds you back, must be jettisoned! You have the power to let go of it! Yes, you can!
By all means, forget the shame and disappointment of the past. Move on with your life!
2. Love God
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Are you a lover of God?
Are you called according to His purpose? If yes, then all things, (disappointment included) will work together for your good. As a lover of God, inside every disappointment, there is an appointment! God has a better appointment, a better plan, a better place or person for you! He is still in the business of doing new and better things. The thing or person that is coming in the future shall be better, and far better! Let this truth be registered in your subconscious mind forthwith!
3. Look up to God
“They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
Psalm 34:5-6
Those who look up to God for help will never be disappointed. And no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In their prayer of desperation, the Lord will listen and deliver them
from all their troubles. Don’t sit down to bemoan your disappointment! Don’t sit down to engage in self pity!
If you feel hopeless, congratulations. God is still in the business of saving hopelessly lost people. He can still lift the fallen and encourage those who look up to Him. Resolve right now to look up to Him. I assure you that you will not be disappointed!
I decree and declare that you will be empowered by God to overcome every disappointment in Jesus mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
