Enjoying Divine Counsel
“And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.”
What is a divine counsel?
A divine counsel is an advice given by God through His Spirit or anointed vessel especially as a result of our enquiry or consultation. When we consult God or ask of Him for the way forward on any issue of life, He is bound to answer us favourably. The Master Counsellor of all times is God. He has answers and solutions to all our nagging questions. In the passage under review, the children of Israel went to seek counsel from God, to know which tribe should go first to attack the people of Benjamin.
And the Lord answered by saying, “Judah shall go up first.”
If you understand the importance of divine counsel, you will take advantage of it maximally. It is wisdom to seek for divine counsel before you make major decisions.
The Bible says, “Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.”
3 ways to connect with divine counsel:
1. The Word of God
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:16
If all scriptures are written via Divine inspiration, it means also that the scriptures are loaded with divine counsels worthy of our acceptance.
The Word of God is the bank of divine counsel! We can connect to divine counsel via the scriptures.
2. Spirit of counsel
“And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;”
God counsels us through the Spirit of counsel. And when we submit ourselves to His counsel on any issue of life, we are bound to command success. The Spirit of counsel will always lead us into the region of success, as His counsel makes all the difference. David always sought after divine counsel via Prayer of inquiry. I’m of firm conviction that if we allow the Spirit of counsel to guide us, He will surely lead us to the place of success and greatness. Before you take a step, ask: ” Holy Spirit of God, over this matter or issue, what are you saying?”
3. God’s anointed vessels
“Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:”
The truth is that God can decide to use any of His chosen vessel as an instrument of wise counsel. I do believe that God strategically places people around us to counsel us at critical moments. See how He used Jethro to counsel Moses, His servant.
Beloved of God, you sure need His counsel on a daily basis. You need His counsel on how to run your family and business. God can’t counsel you in your business and you will not stand out in it. God can’t be your Counsellor in marriage and you will not command bliss in it, conflict or challenges not withstanding. Every time He counsels us, we are free from all the fiery darts of the devil.
If God sends you on a mission, He will make adequate provisions for the mission. If He counsels you, He has power to back you up!
I decree and declare that you will always enjoy divine counsel in Jesus mighty name.
