Engaging the power of choice
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” Deuteronomy 30:19
Our God is a God of choice. He made us as free moral agents and with power to choose what we want out of life. In the passage under review, He gave man the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Man can decide what he wants. And God honours or respects the choice made by man!
What is a choice?
A choice is our ability to make decisions when presented with two or more options. It is an act of choosing between two or more possibilities. The Bible says, “Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.”
2 Samuel 24:12
Life is about choice! Freedom to choose is a wonderful gift of God. Imagine just for a moment if you were made as robots! Fundamentally, we are all products of choice. The essence of being human is our ability to direct our lives by choice. Hence, you can change your life; you can determine your future by choice. You can change your course of study, career or profession by choice. You can move up the ladder of life by choice. Choice is everything! It’s your choice to love God! It’s your choice to follow Jesus! Do you know that there are people who have chosen to follow the devil? And do you know that God respects their choice? God, our Creator has never forced anyone to worship Him. The devil too has never forced anyone to follow him. It’s your choice to serve or not to serve God! Joshua made a profound statement of choice thus:
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
3 important facts about choice:
1. It’s a fact that we are products of God’s choice!
“Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.”
What a privilege, that you and I are chosen out of 7 billion human beings to approach God and to dwell in His presence! Oh God, I’m eternally grateful to You for choosing me!
2. It’s a fact that we have the power to choose our words!
“How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
You have power to use kind or unkind words. You have power to bless or curse someone with your words.
3. It’s a fact that we have the power to choose things!
“For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;”
We have the power to choose things that are pleasing or displeasing unto God.
I decree and declare that you will choose wisely those things that are pro-life and pro-blessing in Jesus mighty name.
