Beware of Suicidal Thoughts
“And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.”
2 Samuel 17:23
Meditating on this passage, I have come to realise that suicide is not just a modern phenomena, as the problem has been with us from time immemorial. In the Bible days, two individuals, Ahithophel and Judas Iscariot committed suicide as a result of pride and guilt respectively.
According to WHO, every year close to 800, 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. I recently read about a 300 level student of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who took her own life. In her suicide note, the deceased blamed her parents for her action, saying they made life a living hell for her. Beloved, nobody, no situation and no circumstance should be the reason for committing suicide. It will surprise you to know that these days many believers are been pushed by the devil and circumstances to attempt suicide. Suicidal thoughts are plaguing many lives today! We must arise quickly and ferociously to stop this plague. We must arise to help people who are prone to suicide! If you or your friends are frequently plagued by suicidal thoughts, please call and talk to someone. You can seek help from experts on mental health. Talk to your pastor to pray and counsel you. Any voice telling you not to share your suicidal thoughts with anyone is a voice from hell. It’s the voice of the devil! Don’t obey that voice!
Don’t allow that fear, guilt, heartache, illness, disillusionment and hopelessness to snowball into suicide. A stitch in time saves nine! Don’t forget suicide is a sin! Taking your own life is not the best route out of your current affliction.
5 reasons why you must not consider suicide:
1. God has promised to deliver you from all afflictions.
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
2. God is well able to bear your burden!
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
3. Jesus Christ has come to give you life more abundantly!
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
4. God has a better plan for you!
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
5. God has promised to help and strengthen you!
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Isaiah 41: 10
I decree and declare that you will be victorious over the powers behind suicide in Jesus mighty name.
