Becoming a True Worshipper
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”
What is Worship?
Worship is about ascribing honour, worth or value to a deity. Worship in our context is about ascribing honour to God the Father! We are not called to worship or ascribe honour to man or Satan. Remember that Satan craved worship, and even wanted to be worshipped by Jesus Christ. He even promised to give Jesus power and glory. The Bible says, “And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Why are you worshiping God? Do you worship God for what you stand to gain from Him? A true worshipper is not into worship because of the abundance of blessings he or she enjoys from God. True Worshippers are not into worship because of things, but because of who God is to them. Make God your topmost priority, and you will worship Him acceptably.
To becoming a true worshipper, you must put 3 things in the right perspective:
1. New birth
It is only true sons of God that can worship God in spirit and truth.
Are you genuinely born again?
Do you have the Holy Spirit residing within you? The truth is that you cannot respond to God in worship if you do not know Him and have relationship with His Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit within you that can energize your worship appropriately and acceptably.
True Worship is a thing of the heart!
You become a true worshipper when your heart is truly engaged in worship. Lifting up your hands in worship without a pure heart toward God will not suffice. Don’t be a part of worshippers who honour God with their lips but their heart is far from Him. The Bible says, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
True Worship is a positive attitude! It is not a negative, selfish attitude! Our attitude to worship must not be premised on “desiring a certain thing of Him.” The Bible says, “Then came to him the mother of Zebedees children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.”
Also you must put your attitude right so you could worship God regardless of place or situation. Yes, it is germane to gather together in church to worship, but you can also worship God alone wherever you find yourself. Even in church, have this mindset or attitude that you are worshiping God fully as an individual, and by so doing you will not be distracted by other worshippers.
I decree and declare that you will be empowered by God to become a true worshipper in Jesus mighty name.
