Becoming a Courageous Person
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9
What is Courage?
According to dictionary definition,
Courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear.” Courage is the ability to do something difficult even when there is opposition or risk. Courageous people do and say what they think is right despite opposition. Men of courage are bold and fearless!
In the passage under review, Joshua had recently taken the mantle of leadership from the great servant of God, Moses. For God to say:
“… Be strong and of a good courage” to him, shows clearly that Joshua was afraid. There was hesitation on his part to go across the Jordan and into the promised Land.
We all need courage when we are faced with new assignment with an enormous responsibility.
We need courage to fight our fears.
Courage is an enabler! It enables us to act, not minding our fears.
Are you considering or moving into a a new career or ministry? Courage is a necessity. To do something of great worth or significance, courage is needed. All risk takers are courageous people! Almost all successful people are courageous!
These days in our country, Nigeria, it takes real courage to step out to do business on your own. It takes courage to speak out against injustice, nepotism, corruption and what have you.
Let me show you how to become a courageous person:
1. Be determined to confront your fears! The truth is that courage is not the absence of fear. Courageous people do feel fear, but they are able to confront their fears with a view to overcoming. Let your fear not stop you from taking action!
2. Be sure God is leading you!
You become bold and courageous when you are sure God is leading you!
“Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.”
Isaiah 48:17
3. Be sure God is with you!
Divine presence is all you need to become courageous! If God is with you, you become unstoppable!
“Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.”
Jeremiah 42:11-12
I decree and declare that you will be empowered with courage in Jesus mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
