Anointing for Greater Works
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
John 14:12
In this passage, Jesus Christ expressed His desire for His disciples to do greater works than He had done in His earthly ministry. I want to deduce that Jesus was saying: “My disciples, I want you to beat my records! I want you to do more than I have ever done. I want you to do greater works!”
As a father, one of my greatest desires is to see my children excelling or commanding more results than me! And I know many parents will agree with me on this. Are you a true teacher? Are you a true mentor or coach? I presume your greatest wish too is to see your students or protégés excel and do greater things than you! Surely, their great exploits will procure honour and respect to you as their handler.
What is the Anointing?
Anointing is the involvement and empowering of the Holy Spirit for supernatural accomplishments. It is the Holy Spirit at work in us, enabling us to perform or produce extraordinary results like Jesus Christ and the apostles. Do you know that the works or acts of the Apostles were largely the result of the anointing which they operated in?
Let’s consider 3 individuals who were saturated with the anointing to do extraordinary work:
1. Jesus Christ
God, the Father greatly anointed His Son, Jesus Christ for an outstanding ministry. His Son could not have done great works without the anointing. As such, none of us can do greater works without the anointing for greater works. The Bible says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
Acts 10:38
2. Apostle Peter
The anointing is a divine enabling! It is an outflow of the Holy Spirit through an ordinary human vessel. The ordinary Peter who could not stand before a maid, became an extraordinary Peter who was full of the anointing to preach boldly, to raise the dead and to heal the sick. The Bible says, “Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.”
Acts 5:15-16
3. Apostle Paul
Only God knows why and how a former persecutor of the church could be so heavily anointed to do great work for the furtherance of the church! Paul became an outstanding preacher and a special miracle worker because of the anointing! The Bible says, “And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.”
Acts 19:11-12
Of a truth God does not despise or look down on anybody! Job said, “Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.”
Job 36:5
If God could not despise Paul because of his antecedents but anointed him greatly, He will do much more for you and I if we dare believe and ask Him for the anointing!
I pray that God will greatly anoint you for greater works in Jesus mighty name!
Yours Sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
