3 ways to develop your Faith
“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.”
Luke 17:5
To live a life of spiritual value, and to command extraordinary results in life, you sure need one thing – faith!
Are you aware that it is via your faith that you can please God? As such, the more you increase or develop your faith, the more you please God! The Bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6
What is Faith?
Faith in our context, is believing God. Faith is taking God at His word and obeying His word without hesitation or excuses. Abraham became the template of faith because he obeyed God without hesitation. Faith is also about you depending or relying on the power or ability of God. The Bible says, “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:5
Quickly, let’s consider 3 ways to develop our faith:
1. We develop our faith by hearing and doing the Word!
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
Anytime you hear the Word of God, you are programming your faith for development. Hearing God’s word is God’s method for increasing your faith. But it is not enough to hear the Word. You must do the Word also!
The Bible says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
James 1:22
You have the responsibility to feed on the Word by reading and studying it.
Do you know that you weaken your physical body, if you starve it of food? So also, you weaken your spirit, if you starve it of spiritual food – the Word!
Jesus said, “… Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
Feeding your spirit is by meditation! Meditation is thinking deeply about the Word you have heard, read or studied. But meditation can only profit you, if you apply the Word to your situation.
2. We develop our faith by keeping company with faith-filled and faith -driven brethren!
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
Proverbs 27:17
Whoever you company with, can influence your faith development positively or negatively. If your friend likes walking by faith, you are most likely going to walk by faith too.
The Bible says if we walk with the wise, we will become wise. In this context of faith development, we can freely say that if we walk or keep company with people of faith, we are most likely going to develop our faith. It is wisdom, therefore, to keep company with people who will sharpen your faith! Attend a church or fellowship where your faith will be empowered to grow! Don’t allow anybody put fear into you!
3. We develop our faith by praying in Tongues
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,”
Jude 1:20
Praying in the Holy Ghost is all about praying in tongues! And praying in tongues will build up or develop your faith. Whatever you need in this life is contained in God, and prayer remains a veritable instrument you can use to get your blessings from Him. When you pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit helps you to pray accordingly.
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
Romans 8:26
I decree and declare that your faith will grow and develop in leaps and bounds in Jesus mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
