3 Benefits of Obedience
“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.”
Deuteronomy 11:26-28
In this passage under review, God gave the children of Israel the choice between a blessing and a curse! He told them that they would be blessed if they obeyed His commands, but that they would be cursed if they rejected or disobeyed His commands by turning away from Him to worship other gods. Wisdom demands that we obey God in order to enjoy His blessings. It is of great benefit or advantage to obey God. What is benefit? Benefit is an advantage or profit gained from something. There are benefits to be enjoyed for being obedient to God and man. The easiest way to enjoy divine blessings is to live a life of obedience.
As children of God, we are called to live a life of obedience, not of disobedience. And our blessings are packaged in obedience, not in disobedience.
What is obedience?
Obedience is compliance with an order, request, law or submission to another’s authority. Obedience is also about hearing and doing the word of God.
Let’s consider 3 benefits of living a life of obedience:
1. Salvation
“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”
Isaiah 45:22
The benefit of looking unto God is salvation! God beckons on all peoples of the earth to embrace Him for their salvation. But how many people are obeying this divine call today? Few! Very few! When God called Noah to build an ark, he promptly obeyed and built an ark which became the vessel of salvation for his family. Obedience pays!
Naaman dipped himself in the Jordan seven times in obedience to Elisha, the prophet of God before his leprosy was cured. Obedience pays!
2. Closer Walk with God
“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”
Genesis 5:24
It takes obedience to walk closer with God. A closer relationship has benefits! One outstanding benefit of obedience is a closer walk with God! If we obey God, we will walk with Him. And if we walk with Him, we will obey His Word, and follow His direction. The truth is that no one can quantify the benefits of a closer walk with God! Enoch, for instance, walked with God and he was transformed beyond the earthly realm! Greater promotions await us as we obey and walk with Him.
3. The good of the land!
“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
Isaiah 1:19
Many believers have been praying and fasting to enjoy the good of the land, not knowing that the good or best of the land is reserved for the obedient! It is when we live a life of obedience that God rewards us with abundant blessings.
Do you want to have plenty to eat? Do you want your lack and penury to become history or to be banished into oblivion? Then consider living a life of obedience forthwith!
I decree and declare that you will be empowered by God to live a life of obedience in Jesus mighty name.
